"The Iranian Green Movement does not want a nuclear bomb"

Noted Iranian filmmaker Mohsen Makhmalbaf, whom FP interviewed at the height of the unrest after the Iranian presidential election in June, has issued the following statement:

Citizens of the World

As someone who is in contact with prominent members of the Green Movement in Iran, and as someone who is intimately informed of their points of view, I declare to the world, particularly to the people and government of America, that the Iranian Green Movement does not want a nuclear bomb, but instead desires peace for the world and democracy for Iran. The Green Movement in Iran furthermore understands the world's concerns and in fact has similar concerns itself.

I have been also entrusted with the responsibility of informing the world that any accord or agreement signed with the current coup-empowered illegitimate government of Iran is considered bereft of legitimacy by the Green Movement, which enjoys the support of a majority of the Iranian people; all such agreements will be subject to review in future.

This is news?

It would be news if you could find an Iranian who DOES want a nuclear bomb.

Head of State Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has issued a fatwa (2005) saying the production, stockpiling and use of nuclear weapons was forbidden under Islam.

President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has insisted that Iran's nuclear program is for peaceful purposes. He has repeatedly emphasized that building a nuclear bomb is not the policy of his government. "We have no need for nuclear weapons."

The IAEA has repeatedly found that Iran is in full compliance with the NPT.

So how about this as a substitute: "The Israeli Green Movement wants a nuclear bomb -- and has one. In fact they have a couple hundred of them."

Nice photo though. The man looks like a serious filmmaker. I bet he's not short.
