The Terrorism Index
July/August 2006

Complete results, a list of participants, and details of the methodology used in the index are available at ForeignPolicy.com and AmericanProgress.org.

For a detailed look at U.S. government funding of the war on terror, read “The Cost of Iraq, Afghanistan, and Other Global War on Terror Operations Since 9/11,” by Amy Belasco (Congressional Research Service, April 24, 2006). Daniel Yergin’s The Prize: The Epic Quest for Oil, Money, and Power (New York: Simon & Schuster, 1991) traces the impact of oil on geopolitics. Ehud Sprinzak looked at the phenomenon of suicide bombers—and how to stop them—in Rational Fanatics (FOREIGN POLICY, September/October 2000). The National Counterterrorism Center’s annual “Report on Incidents of Terrorism” tracks terrorist incidents around the world.
